1. Use of Gendered Terms Related to Married Individuals in New Jersey Statutes - Consideration of a Draft Final Report proposing modifications to New Jersey statutes, including the adult adoption statute at N.J.S. 2A:22-1, to replace gendered terms referring to married couples with gender-neutral terms. Report
2. Title 18A and Title 26 - Updating Terms Related to Epinephrine Administration and Nurses – Consideration of a Draft Final Report recommending modifications to New Jersey statutes in Title 18A and Title 26 to: (1) revise language that specifies the method of administering epinephrine; and (2) update the title of health care providers who are authorized to provide certain types of medical care in a school setting. Citizen’s Arrest - Consideration of a Revised Draft Tentative Report proposing the modification or repeal of statutes authorizing an arrest by a private citizen (N.J.S. 2A:169-3; N.J.S. 2C:20-11; and, N.J.S. 2C:20-14), and statutes containing references to “special officer” (N.J.S. 2A:157-23, N.J.S. 4:15-4, N.J.S. 4:15-5, N.J.S. 4:15-8, N.J.S. 4:15-9, N.J.S. 12:6-6, N.J.S. 30:4-116, N.J.S. 30:4-118, and N.J.S. 43:10-19). 4. Tort Claims Act – Proper Service of Notice of Claim (N.J.S. 59:8-7 and -10) - Consideration of a Draft Tentative Report addressing whether N.J.S. 59:8-7 and -10 would benefit from modification to clarify the individual upon whom service should be made when filing a notice of claim against a public entity under the Tort Claims Act as addressed in Bryant v. County of Cumberland. Report

Earn Your Way-Out Act – Imposition of Parole Board Conditions on Parolees - Consideration of an Update Memorandum summarizing comments received following preliminary outreach regarding whether the Parole Act statutes would benefit from a modification consistent with the determination of the New Jersey Supreme Court in Williams vs. New Jersey State Parole Board. New Jersey Law Revision Commission – Executive Director position
The New Jersey Law Revision Commission, an independent legislative commission (N.J.S. 1:12A-1 et seq.), is seeking an Executive Director with the vision and commitment to enhance the capacity and impact of the LRC. Applicants should be experienced, NJ-licensed attorneys in good standing, with a background including management/supervision. Must reside in NJ. Position requires engagement with members of the Legislature, other State entities, and members of the public, as well as the operation of the Commission’s office, which consists of staff members focused on detailed legal research and writing to support recommendations for statutory revision. This State position is full-time, and work is done on-site in the NJLRC’s Newark office. The annual salary is $122K and the position also provides State benefits, including health insurance and enrollment in the pension system.

A Tradition of Law Revision, 1987 - Present
With the enactment of N.J.S. 1:12A-1 et seq., the current New Jersey Law Revision Commission was created in 1985 and began work in 1987.
The New Jersey Law Revision Commission is required by statute to “promote and encourage the clarification and simplification of the law…and its better adaptation to present social needs, secure the better administration of justice and carry on scholarly legal research and work.” N.J.S. 1:12A-8.
The Commission does so by conducting an ongoing review of New Jersey statutes and case law to identify areas of the law that require revision. The Commission also considers recommendations from the American Law Institute, the Uniform Law Commission (formerly the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws) and other learned bodies as well as members of the legal community and the public.

The Tentative Reports below are distributed to advise interested persons of the NJLRC's tentative recommendations and to offer an opportunity to submit comments. The Commission is actively seeking comments on the reports below.
